What is liaison interpreting ?

Liaison interpreting is a particular form of consecutive interpreting. The interpreter works for a few participants by memorizing short passages and interacting in the two languages, generally, without relying on written notes.

When do we use liaison interpretation and what are its advantages?

Liaison interpreting is used during business negotiations and meetings attended by a small number of participants.

This form of interpreting covers a broad range of events, e.g. business meetings, commercial dealings, B2B meetings, negotiations and contract closures, bilateral meetings, fairs, and visits to factories and companies.

How does it work for the interpreter?

During liaison or dialogue interpreting, the interpreter memorizes short passages in the source language, taking notes if necessary. During negotiations, therefore, the interpreter switches quickly from one language to another, demonstrating great sensitivity to the dialogue dynamics and immediately reacting to the client’s requests.
